Backpack Collection

We have an outstanding service project to present to you that can make a real difference in the lives of kids. The University of Dayton Los Angeles Community has been challenged by Long Beach Rescue Mission to collect and fill 100 backpacks for kids at Robinson Elementary School. Below is the list of school supplies to go into the backpacks. We are estimating the cost of the backpack and supplies to be in the range of $65-$75.

Here's how you can help:

  • Register below to confirm you will be filling a backpack.
  • Purchase a new solid color backpack.
  • Fill it with supplies from the supply list below (please do not add extra items).
  • Drop your backpack off at one of our drop point locations throughout the LA area by Friday, August 17.

School Supply List (extra items are discouraged)

  • 1 - 2" hardcover 3-ring binder
  • 1 - 6-pack, red ballpoint pens
  • 1 - 12" ruler
  • 1 - Large pink eraser
  • 1 - 6-pack, black/blue ballpoint pens
  • 2 - One-subject spiral notebooks
  • 2 - College-ruled notebook filler paper
  • 1 - 3-ring pen/pencil holder
  • 1 - 12-pack, #2 pencils w/erasers
  • 1 - 3 x 5 lined index cards
  • 1 - Pack of subject dividers
  • 1 - Small pencil sharpener
  • 1 - Pack of glue sticks

We are asking that you support one child by filling a backpack and dropping it off at one of our drop points throughout the LA area by Friday, Aug. 17. You will receive the addresses to the drop point locations upon registering your commitment to filling a backpack.

If you would like to fill a backpack but don’t have the time to shop you can make a donation to the Los Angeles Alumni Community fund. Members of the leadership team will then buy and fill a backpack for you.

If you are unable to fill a backpack but would still like to help, please join us and you can participate in the backpack distribution day!

Distribution Day

Please join the LA Alumni Community to distribute all the backpacks we collected for the kids at Jackie Robinson Academy! Register to volunteer so we know you plan on attending.
